Why Good SEO Marketers Do Not Fear Penguin v2.0

O my god, There is another penguin update being launched by  Google, let’s run around frantically and scream at each other on forums.  Well, why not? That’s what happened the last time there was a penguin  update. Everyone started to panic.

But not us

Granted we held our breath when the update was launched, but we soon  saw our results increase. This is because of a simple technique that we  use.

We don’t over optimize our anchor texts, and we don’t have a huge  focus on ensuring exact keyword volumes are used, that’s right, we try  to make it look as organic and natural as possible.

Google wants to catch the companies/individuals that are abusing the  system, it knows that there are many white hat/grey hat SEO guys who  focus solely on producing quality content and then use various  promotional techniques to help it increase in the SERPs – this is normal  and what is called Organic. They rank it for a various amount of  keywords and don’t have a huge focus on one specific type.

This is the practice in which will stop you from ever suffering from a Penguin update.

Practical Example:Let’s say we were ranking a website within the “dog training” niche.  We write an article or two and place it on our website that is  specifically focused on a certain aspect of dog training i.e. “Stopping  my dog pulling on the lead”. Current practice states that we want  anything from 12-30% of all of our anchor text in our backlinks pointing  back to this page/site for our main keyword, so in this example “dog  training”. Well we think this is wrong!

We have found with extensive practice that we have had better results  at targeting just a 4-8% Anchor text ratio for the main keyword, this  then allows us to bring more keyword’s into the mix, let’s say for  instance, we want to use 20% of our anchor text diversity just for the  root URL, this leaves us with a huge amount of anchor text to play with,  this mean we can rank those articles etc. for longer tail keywords,  thus improving their visibility and potentially increasing the amount of  visitors to our dog training site.

Follow this strategy and we can guarantee your results, it also means  you can relax in knowing that your not misleading people and providing  high quality information to which you deserve to rank for.

Short Term & Long Term Goals

PPC advertising can be a long-term and a short-term strategy. This is because you can control your campaign as much as you want to. It all depends on your budget. If you are profiting from your campaign, you can leave it running indefinitely. If you are on a tight budget, you can run the ads for as long as your budget will allow, then pause your campaign at any time. Researching into prime locations and prime keywords for you budget may be best way to capitalise on a tight budget. Just one thing to keep in mind.

What Is Pay-Per-Click & Where Do I Do It?

Pay-per-click advertising is often referred to as performance-based advertising. Basically, you pay for the results.

To put this in context, think of Outdated traditional newspaper classified advert. You needed to pay per word to run your advertisement. Similarly, you may have come across some websites that will let you run a banner advertisement for some amount of time if you give an up front payment. The problem with that form of advertising is that you have no guarantee about results. You could spend alot of money on “pay up front” advertisements, and end up going broke if your advertisement performs poorly.

The pay-per-click method of advertising, however, gives advertisers like you the advantage by letting you control your advertising costs. Instead of being charged for publication or advertisement exposure, your ads are run for free.

You don’t actually pay anything until someone clicks one of the link to your website hence the term “pay-per-click”.

Where To Run Pay-per-Click Ads

PPC ads are delivered by the pay-per-click search engines, like: Google AdWords Program. Google AdWords is leading the way in the pay-per-click industry. With the highest volume and traffic quality. However, it is also the most competitive and the most expensive. Bing Ads includes all of the engine formerly participating in the Overture program. High volume and traffic quality, but still requires careful research to find the cheapest clicks. As with everything in business you must research.

However, there are also a handful of small PPC engines (slightly lower volume) which offer high-quality traffic. You can use a mix of PPC engines in your campaign, especially if you want to get the most traffic possible for your budget. Don’t rely on only on PPC engine. This would not be the most effective way of getting a higher Click Through Rate (CTR).

Also, make sure you use both the large and small networks. The best thing to do if you are new to all this is choose just one of the major players and one of the smaller players. Doing this ensures you get the taste for which gives you the higher-quality traffic and if it is more cost effective for your company to use smaller or larger players in the game.

Things to consider when outsourcing website design

Outsourcing is an affordable way to gain the services of someone with a specific skill set or expertise. Outsourcing website design is commonly done to reduce costs and to obtain quality website designs from experienced providers.
There are numerous things to consider when one outsources their web design.Hiring contractors for website design jobs is a relatively straightforward process. Clients post their requirements on a freelance hiring company and wait for proposals or applications. Choosing a contractor depends on several factors.
First and foremost is expertise and experience. Asking for a sample is a good way to gauge an applicant’s skills. Interviewing applicants is also a good way to gauge professionalism, willingness and communication skills.
Choosing the contractor with the cheapest rate is usually a recipe for disaster. Choose contractors with excellent skills and with a large portfolio of past projects related to your own. Even if you do end up with a contractor with a higher asking rate, in the long run, hiring an experienced contractor will reduce risks and save you and your company money. Get the financial stuff over with as soon as possible. Set the terms of the contract, the payment scheme and the possibility of earning a bonus. This avoids any misunderstanding that may pop up as the project progresses.Communication between the client and the contractor is always vital for any outsourcing task. Clients must make sure that their vision for the website design is something that the contractor understands. Scheduling a time to check up on the contractor’s progress will ensure that the project is completed on time.Be sure to consult the contractor regarding things you want to incorporate and make sure that the contractor informs you of the changes that they’ve done. Setting up a change log where the contractor can note down what’s he’s done for the day is a great way to gauge the project’s progress. Remember that you’ve hired a website design expert so treat your contractor like one.If the project is successful, maintain contact with the contractor.Good workers in any field are hard to find. Building a relationship with a professional website designer is a great asset for any individual or company.

Link building and SEO for small businesses

With being a small business and devoted to the internet marketing niche, I always find it frustrating when I read articles entitled “build links to your site in minutes” or “the top 10 ways to build great links to your website”, then they give you the same bogus strategy; write an eBook, create a video and hope it goes viral or create a white paper. Please note these methods do work for certain individuals because they are great ways to build high quality links to your website.

The problem I have is they don’t try to explain ways in which you can make your business seem like an authority on the subject. It can be a huge struggle to create influence within your marketplace, especially if the community you’re in is Internet marketing.

Forgetting the link building and focusing on social integration and developing relationships!

Building a relationship with your audience is vital. This is what I believe to be one of the key points to any successful small business. Because you build rapport with the customer, they know you. They also trust you (this is one of the key points), and they begin to value your word because they know you and your business.

Social networks give you a fantastic way to communicate with your audience and start working on this relationship. Don’t get me wrong; this won’t be an overnight success. In fact, it will probably take you a few months if not years to develop a truly successful online brand. “Rome wasn’t built in a day”.

I recommend dedicating at least one hour per day to going through related blogs and other news in your industry, commenting, actively participating, Google+ and twittering. Creating that much needed self-promotion is a route to success.

Remember!

It is about building relationships that are two way, not just one. Don’t get stuck in the position of just giving away everything you know for free. Yes, give advice and a helping hand, but don’t rip off your hand and give it to them for free. Be honest to you and everything else should flow.

The Blazing Sunshine Outside

Wow, for those of you who are currently sat in their back garden relaxing, how are you finding this glorious weather? That’s one of the benefits of online marketing and working online with websites. You can be anywhere in the world, sat outside, provided you can see your screen and there aren’t too many distractions.

How much marketing have you done for your business in the past two weeks? Well how much?

Recently I found a website that suggests if you don’t update your website at least once per week then Google will begin to disfavor your website above others. However, if you keep on top of it and continually do updates with new content etc. They guarantee that Google will consider your website to be important.

But what’s your thoughts on this? Do you think Google is trying to force people to make updates to their sites otherwise they will punish you?

Importance of Search Engine Optimisation for Businesses

The Internet has been a great leveling field where the Davids of small business can compete successfully with the Goliaths of the world. As conventional advertising and marketing strategies are being increasingly questioned, SEO, or Search Engine Optimisation, continues to rule the roost. It is one of the fastest growing marketing methods to exist today. Here are some of the key factors that establish the importance of Search Engine Optimisation for business.

  • Higher Visibility: Fame in the Internet world has everything to do with better rankings on search engines. As of now, Google dominates the search engine arena and its reach is unrivalled. SEO professionals come up with strategies that help Google bots crawl the site and propel it up high on rankings. It is easy to assume that a well-designed site is enough to bring traffic, but if you are looking to index your site, help from an SEO professional is inevitable. Here’s how he helps:
  • Informative Content: It is important that you feed the site regularly with fresh and informative content. This content allows search engine robots to crawl easily, thereby helping with better search engine rankings.
  • Site Map: It is important for a site to be easily navigable, in order for the search engine robots to pick up the site. A site map with linked in pages and appropriate anchor text can help the site.
  • Keywords: People looking for information on the Internet often tend to do so using commonly used phrases. These are called “keywords” and it is important that you use these keywords in your title, tags, and description to ensure higher rankings.
  • Off-site Optimization: While onsite optimisation includes the use of keywords in titles and descriptions, it is also important to gather back links from credible resources. This is called off-site optimization.
  • Lead Generation: When you gain interest about your product and services through these SEO techniques, people visit the site to increase exposure. A user looking for information on the net isn’t aware that a site is being propelled in search engine rankings. He rather assumes that because a site comes up in the first page of search rankings, the content is relevant and trustworthy.
  • Attract Relevant Traffic: Search engine optimisation for business is important to get a targeted audience. It doesn’t make sense to rank high for a product or service that you do not sell. In fact, going by current Google search parameters, this leads to negative rankings.

Modern E-commerce: The Advantages

E-commerce, as representing “electronic commerce”, takes advantage of electronic systems like the internet, or world wide web, in order to promote and sell products or services. Electronic commerce comprises almost everything from the purchase of digital goods, products such as eBooks and software that basically only exist on a computer, that can be consumed immediately by the purchaser, to more conventional types of services and physical goods.

There are many significant advantages for a business to consider e-commerce. They include:

  • No Geographic Limitations
  • New Customers can be Gained Simply Through Search Engine Results
  • Considerably Lower Costs Involved in Marketing Goods and Services
  • Customers can Locate the Desired Product in a Shorter Period of Time
  • Customers can Save Money from Shopping Time and Travel Expenses
  • Customers can Easily Comparison Shop
  • A Customer can more Easily Take Advantage of Discounts, Coupons and other Deals
  • An Increased Amount of Product Information can be Made Available to Customers
  • Customer Information can More Easily be Attained
  • Businesses can Remain Open 24/7/365 – No Store Closing Time

With an e-commerce web site, the entire world is in effect a prospective customer base. Customers located all across the globe simply have to type a reference to the product or service they are looking to buy into a search engine and, if a business’ e-commerce site shows up in the search results, there is a good probability that the prospective customer will follow the link to the e-commerce store.

A business is bound to experience significantly reduced over-head when they become involved with e-commerce. Along with savings in advertising and marketing costs, there is a savings in that fewer employees are required to maintain an e-commerce business and the exorbitant cost of a prominent physical location for a store is not necessary.

A big advantage for the e-commerce shopper is that the desired product or service can be located in a shorter period of time. There is no need for a physical shopping cart or to roam endless aisles in search what is wanted. There are no travel and time expenses incurred by the shopper. Shopping takes place from the comfort of their own home. Also, a prospective buyer can easily comparison shop by visiting several or more e-commerce businesses for the preferred product or service simply by employing a few clicks of a mouse. And since there are little to no costs involved for travel, or the limitations that can be experienced from the necessity of traveling to physical store locations, customers can more easily take advantage of discounts, coupons and other deals that may be available on multiple sites for multiple products.

With regard to the gathering and distributing of information, e-commerce makes it possible for a business to easily collect customer information to expedite sales or for the purpose of follow-up. Further, an abundance of product information can be made available to the customer for their perusal where it would entail consuming a lot of employee time to deliver the same amount of information to the customer in a physical store.

Probably one of the biggest advantages of a business engaging in electronic commerce is that there are no store closing hours. Prospective customers can shop online 24 hour a day, 7 days a week, 365 days per year. This great search engine driven convenience leads to more sales and the e-commerce operator can reap the benefits simply by making his products or services available online.

A Beginners Guide to SEO

If you have never come across the term search engine optimisation (SEO) before, you may well wonder what the fuss is all about. However, once you learn more about it, you will realize why it is becoming increasingly important in this digital age.

SEO is the process you put a web site through in order for it to rank as highly on search engines as possible. This isn’t a simple task, particularly for search engines like Google, which uses a very complicated algorithm to work out how sites are ranked, so even an expert may not know how to get your website ranked highly on there, although they will try hard to do it.

When optimizing your website for search engines, the first thing you will need to do is make sure that your site is structured in a logical way, one that search engines recognize and understand. Secondly, you need to do research into which keywords people will use when looking for the sorts of goods and services that you provide. This will probably need a brainstorming session and maybe some market research. Once you have identified those words, you then need to incorporate them into your website in appropriate places so that the search engines target it when needed. You will then need to have numerous links on the Internet to your website. The more links there are to a site, the more popular it is deemed to be, and a more popular site will rank higher on a search engine results page.

You will already see how complex search engine optimization is. There is very little chance that someone with no or little knowledge about it will be able to do their own SEO work on their own web site. However, there are plenty of other ways that this can be done. Firstly, you could buy some software which helps submit your website to various search engines. This can be fairly effective but has limited use, as it will only submit to certain sites and won’t let you know how you should change your web site to improve its ranking. This software can work for people with some knowledge of SEO, but a beginner should really employ a company to do this work for them.

There are a huge number of companies which offer  SEO services and the hard job isn’t finding someone to do it but how to choose which one to use. Make sure you find someone who has been doing search engine submission for a long time and has experience in your field of business. These services don’t often come cheap, but without it your web site will just be sitting out there on the internet with no visitors because no one knows it exists. So if you are going to have a popular web site that generates you lots of business, it is essential that you can easily find it when doing keyword searches on the internet. You should now be able to see why SEO services are so popular these days.
